A BRIEF HISTORY

Patricia A. Farrington, CEO has been collecting and making wine for many years. She recalls times of making wine with her family growing up and developed a love for the process. So when it was time to name the business it was only fitting to choose a family name. Patricia's great-grandmother's name was Honor, Latin translation . Honora.

In 1993 she decided to move out of the hustle and bustle of city life and find a location in the small Vermont town of West Halifax. The first focus was to build the estate on the 200 acre farm and then to focus on the vineyard. When the house was near completion, fields were prepped, vines were planted and the winery was set up with all of the latest equipment.

Because of the climates in Vermont, Honora is focusing on cold-weather varietals. Mostly the ones developed and researched by the late Elmer Swenson. We are growing a mix of both red and white varietals. A few are Frontenac, LaCrescent, Leon Millot, Marechal Foch and the newest variety Marcette (MN1211). In the spring of 2006 we will also begin experimenting with some vinifra including Gewutztraminer and Pinot Noir. Most will be used to make blended varieties and some ice wines. All bottles of wine that are made at Honora from the grapes in our vineyards will be our estate wines.

We are aware that there are some wine connoisseurs that will be looking for the more traditional varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet and Chardonnay, to name a few. The climates in Vermont are not conducive to growing these so we are working with growers around the country and importing the grapes needed to fill this demand. Currently we are working with growers in California and Washington State with plans to look into Oregon and other grape growing regions.

Our retail location is in the nearby town of Wilmington, VT. We are in the process of restoring a historic 1890 barn back to scale. The 30,000 square foot location will include a tasting room, wine sales and gift shop. There are currently some other ideas being considered in addition to these and we are very excited about all of the possibilities. The opening is planned for late 2009.
